This course introduces students to Food and Nutrition through the preparation of assorted recipes selected to familiarize the student with organizational procedures, basic food preparation techniques and food service. Kitchen safety and food sanitation are stressed. Basic nutrition is introduced to help foster healthy food choices. Measuring techniques, recipe terms, abbreviations and equivalents are also introduced. Table manners and food etiquette are reviewed. In the Clothing Lab, students learn to operate the sewing machine while constructing a beginner’s sewing project.
