Musical Theatre Set Design Project

Musical Theatre

Scale Model Project

Over the course of the last few weeks, we have been using our own materials to create a scale model for the set of a show/scene from a show of your choice. Now that we are nearing the end of the process, please answer the following questions in regards to your set designs and your scale models:

  1. Why did you choose the show you designed? What about that show speaks to you in a way that makes you want to create something that brings it to life on stage?
  2. What type of stage are you using (proscenium, thrust, etc.) and why does that stage serve your design?
  3. What are some challenges you faced as a designer trying to create a set for your show while keeping in mind the actors on stage, the limitations of your type of stage, and anything else that may present some sort of dilemma? How did you overcome them?
  4. Briefly go into some descriptions on costumes, lighting, and sound. What do you think the best way of handling these facets of theatre would be with your design in mind?

Both the Project and this write up are due in class on December 20, 2017
