Sister Jacquelyn’s Statement on the Death of George Floyd

Dear All,

It is with resounding support that I share with you a statement made by Cardinal Tobin on behalf of the people of the Archdiocese of Newark and all people of good will. I want you to know that although I have been agonizing over the murder of George Floyd since it happened, the schools of the Archdiocese were asked to wait for this statement to be released before making one of their own. With this being said, I could not have put better into words how this horrific act has appalled me and left me heart wrenched.

Please know that we address the issue of racism, among other human rights issues, across our curriculum particularly in our Religious Studies, Social Studies and English classes and will continue to do so. We are grateful to our alumnae community, specifically to those who have reached out and offered support in the form of sharing resources which can help to provide impetus towards change in our country. I thank them too for sharing their personal experiences with racism and how that has affected them. We always challenge our graduates to go out and make a positive difference in our world.

Please pray for the family of George Floyd and other victims of racial injustice. Please pray for me; I promise to continue to pray for each of you. Thank you.
